Celebrate Donate Life Month: Annual Flag Raising Ceremony with Frederick Health and Infinite Legacy

Frederick Health and Infinite legacy members gather in front of a flag pole, holding up a flag that says "Donate Life, Honoring Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donors." Approximately 20 people in the photo.

A flag-raising ceremony to celebrate Donate Life Month occurred outside Frederick Health Hospital on April 8 at 12 PM. Organ transplant recipients, donor families, and representatives from Frederick Health and Infinite Legacy attended and offered moving remarks.

“Within the past few months, Frederick Health has supported 10 total tissue and eye donations,” said Jamie White, Chief Nursing Officer at Frederick Health. “While this effort is impacting patients across Frederick County, nearly 4,000 people in our region are still waiting for a lifesaving transplant. One donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and enhance the lives of dozens more through tissue and eye donation.”

Each April, Frederick Health partners with Infinite Legacy to bring attention to National Donate Life Month. The goal of National Donate Life Month is to increase awareness about the decision to be an organ donor, honoring deceased and living donors, and celebrating the lives they saved through donations.

Three flags fly in the sky on a clear day, the Maryland flag, the American flag, and a flag that says "Donate Life, Honoring Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donors."

Attendants heard from Michael Butler, a kidney transplant recipient, about his donation experience.

"I cherish each moment I have every day," Butler said. "My donor did not just give me their organ. They gave me time."

Five people stand on a clear day in front of a brick building, three men and two women. One of the man discusses his experience as a donor recipient

"Behind every transplant is a decision of generosity,” said White. “At Frederick Health, we are honored to be part of that decision and journey for so many families.”
