Early Cancer Detection Testing
Galleri Multi-Cancer Early Detection Test (MCED)
The Galleri Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) testing is a new approach to screening for cancer. To be used in addition to recommended cancer screenings, this simple blood-based test can help screen for more than 50 types of cancers, that don’t have recommended screenings today.
By identifying DNA fragments in the blood, the Galleri test can help identify DNA shed by cancer cells even before you are symptomatic - when it may be easily treated and potentially curable.
Frederick Health is the second site in Maryland to partner with GRAIL and joins many highly regarded institutions offering this type of innovative early cancer detection testing including Cleveland Clinic, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Memorial Sloan Kettering.
The Galleri test does not detect a signal for all cancers, and not all cancers can be detected in the blood. False positive and false negative results do occur. The Galleri test identifies DNA in the bloodstream shed by cancer cells and does not predict future genetic risk for cancer. Galleri should be used in addition to healthcare provider recommended screening tests.
