Frederick Health Hospital Nationally Recognized with an ‘A’ for the Spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Frederick Health has always been committed to patient safety—and now we’re nationally recognized for it! Frederick Health Hospital received an “A” grade for the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing our achievements in protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.

“We are honored to receive this special recognition,” says Kathy J. Weishaar MD FHM, Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Frederick Health. “Patient safety and improved outcomes are always our goals. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, our team continued to keep all patients safe from injuries, accidents, and infections—and went above and beyond to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and serve the health needs of those impacted. This was a wholehearted effort from every member of our team, and we celebrate this honor with each and every one of our staff.”

“An ‘A’ safety grade is an elite designation that the Frederick community should be proud of,” says Leah Binder, president, and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “The past year has been extraordinarily difficult for hospitals, but Frederick Health shows us it is possible to keep a laser focus on patients and their safety, no matter what it takes.”

The safety of our patients, visitors, and our entire healthcare team is critical. This “A” grade is a prestigious reminder of our mission to positively impact the well-being of every individual in our community and ensuring everyone has access to safe, quality care. It’s another confirmation that we are meeting these goals by constantly reviewing our practices and performance and focusing continuously on improvement and patient care.

About The Leapfrog Group

Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey and new Leapfrog Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Survey collect and transparently report hospital and ASC performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Leapfrog’s other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
