To achieve optimal health and wellness, it’s important to develop and practice healthy habits every day. Frederick Health's mission is to positively impact the wellbeing of everyone in our community, and maintaining health proactively is key to keeping Frederick County well.
Wellness can look different for everyone, but starting at the basics can be a good way to create healthy, long-lasting changes to your lifestyle.
Don’t sleep on the importance of good rest
Good sleep is essential for renewing your mental and physical health. Most adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. Lack of quality, restful sleep, often leaves us feeling irritable, exhausted, and unwell.
Did you know that approximately 50-70 million Americans suffer from a treatable sleep disorder? If you're waking up tired every morning, it may be more than a late bedtime — it could be a sign of an underlying sleep disorder. Ask yourself these simple questions:
- Do you wake up feeling tired?
- Do you snore?
- Do you fall asleep while driving or at inappropriate times?
- Do you have morning headaches?
- Do you have decreased memory and concentration?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may suffer from a sleep disorder. Frederick Health Medical Group Sleep Medicine can help you take back control over your sleep. We treat disorders such as sleep apnea and snoring, insomnia, Narcolepsy, and more.
Get Moving
It's no secret that incorporating movement into your wellness routine can improve your health and wellbeing in the short and long term. The immediate benefits of increasing healthy activities can include better sleep and a reduced risk of depression and anxiety. Introducing healthy movement as part of an early intervention plan can also help to prevent and manage certain chronic diseases.

Your dietary needs matter
Many of us already know that what we put into our body can impact us negatively or positively when it comes to physical health. But research also shows that what we eat affects our mood and mental health, and understanding your own unique dietary needs and challenges can be tricky to navigate.
At Frederick Health, our dietitians are very skilled at helping patients with a variety of special nutritional needs. We work with health and lifestyle improvements, food and dietary allergy issues, eating disorders, sports and nutritional needs, oncology patients, and more.
We also offer several specialty programs for weight management and work with patients before and after bariatric surgery.
