Frederick Health Hospital is pleased to announce the 2026 Nurses of the Year. Each year the organization honors two nurses with this award – one that provides direct patient care as well as one that provides indirect care.

Indirect Care Nurse of the Year Winner: Sara Rogers, Clinical Nurse Specialist

With 26 years of dedicated service at Frederick Health, Sara Rogers has demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to nursing excellence. As Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist for the Clinical Education Center, she has led major educational and patient safety initiatives, including the successful implementation of a new resuscitation education and certification program for more than 2,000 employees. Through mentoring, evidence-based practice, and leadership, she has positively impacted countless patients and nursing staff while advancing the quality of care across the organization.

“Sara instills confidence and competence needed for staff to respond in critical situations,” said Peggy McNeill, PhD, Registered Nurse, and Director of Nursing Quality and Professional Practice. “Her leadership, teamwork, and focus on patient safety and staff development make her our Indirect Nurse of the Year!”

“This is my community, and I love taking care of my neighbors and friends,” said Rogers. “My family has been here twenty years, and delivering care for my community is very personal to me.”

Direct Care Nurse of the Year Winner: Rita Warner, Registered Nurse

A Certified Medical/Surgical Nurse and Certified Emergency Nurse with a BSN, Rita maintains advanced emergency nursing certification beyond the requirements of her role. As a preceptor, mentor, and clinical resource for new hires and nurse residents, she is recognized for building confidence in new nurses through guidance, encouragement, and hands-on support. Rita’s adaptability allows her to seamlessly float between multiple units, including Med/Surg, Telemetry, and the Emergency Department, while also serving as a discharge nurse to improve patient throughput and care coordination. Widely respected by patients, families, and colleagues alike, she is frequently recognized for her compassionate care, clinical expertise, and leadership.

“Rita prioritizes safety and professionalism while serving as a trusted clinical expert across multiple units including the Emergency Room,” said Kasey Zern, Clinical Nurse Specialist. “Her empathy and communication skills foster strong relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.”

“I’m not only honored to have won, but to work for such a great organization,” Warner said. “Being a nurse means putting your best foot forward and trying to shine some light on whoever you are helping that day.”
