Concussions

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head. A hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth can also cause a concussion. This type of injury usually isn’t life-threatening, but the effects can still be serious and long-lasting.

At Frederick Health, we take a specialized approach to concussions. Dr. Vikram Sodhi and Dr. Jason Matthews lead a talented team in evaluating and treating concussions and post-concussion syndrome in patients of all ages. Services include:

  • Concussion evaluation and management
  • Musculoskeletal assessment
  • Return to Play medical clearance

Symptoms of a concussion typically show up soon after the injury occurs, but that isn’t always the case. Some symptoms may not present themselves for hours or even days after the event. If you or someone you know experiences any of the following symptoms after a hit to the head, it might be a concussion:

  • A prolonged headache
  • Dizziness
  • Balance issues
  • Confusion
  • Irritability
  • Sensitivity to noise or light
  • Visual disturbances
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Unusual sleeping habits
  • Memory loss
  • Difficulty concentrating

Get care immediately if you start to notice any of these symptoms.

Bone Health

About 54 million Americans have osteoporosis or low bone mass. It affects both men and women of all races, but white and Asian women—especially older women who are past menopause—are at the highest risk. You may also have an increased risk if you have:

  • Celiac disease
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • Lupus
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Cancer
  • Multiple myeloma

If you think you’re at risk for osteoporosis or if you need bone health care, we’re here for you. Frederick Health Medical Group offers comprehensive bone health care, including:

  • Evaluation and assessment of bone health through lab testing, x-rays, additional studies, and personalized treatment recommendations
