The Billy Miller Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Frederick Health Hospital

Frederick Health Hospital cares for more than 2,400 families in our Birth Place each year. While most newborns do not require intensive medical care, having a Level III NICU in our community provides laboring persons with welcome peace of mind.

Our Team of Experts

In partnership with Johns Hopkins Neonatologists, our skilled team of Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Case Managers, and other qualified professionals care for your baby right here in Frederick County.

During your baby's NICU stay, our team of clinical experts guides you in caring for your baby based on their individual needs. To ensure a safe transition home, our Case Management team works with you to provide support and access to resources, including follow-up visits.

Accredited Level III Perinatal Center

As a Perinatal Level III Referral Center, Frederick Health Hospital's Level III NICU team consists of healthcare specialists trained to care for:

  • Babies as young as 23 weeks premature
  • Babies who are born before 32 weeks who weigh less than 1,500 grams
  • Babies of any age or weight who are critically ill
  • Babies who need equipment to help them breathe
  • Babies who may need surgery

Access To Advanced Specialty Care

Our NICU team works closely with Johns Hopkins providers to ensure access to advanced medical specialties, including cardiology, genetics, and pediatric surgical specialties.

In the event your baby requires a medical transfer to a specialized facility, we work in partnership with families and providers to ensure a safe transfer process to and from our NICU.
