Nurse Graduate Pipeline Program

What is Nurse Graduate Pipeline Program?

Frederick Health is committed to nursing excellence. To that end, we understand the need to nurture and assist new nurses as they develop and refine their clinical skills and critical thinking. The Nurse Graduate Pipeline Program, through the Nursing Resources Department, provides an opportunity for nurses to join Frederick Health and prepare for job openings within the system. Pipeline Nurses (recent BSN nursing graduates) will work alongside and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse Preceptor throughout the entire orientation to enhance clinical skills.

Pipeline Requirements:

  • The program requires applicants to hold a minimum of Baccalaureate in Nursing Degree and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or other recognized compact state.
  • The program is a temporary position lasting no longer than six (6) months and is not benefit eligible.

Pipeline Curriculum:

The orientation consists of a 16-20 week curriculum with an opportunity for extension if mutually agreed by the clinical preceptors and manager.

  • Schedules will be based on the assigned clinical preceptor.
  • Candidates should be prepared to float throughout the hospital with their preceptor.
  • Clinical schedules should always follow the clinical preceptor work schedule and offer 36-40 hours per week of proctored clinical experience.

Pipeline Nurses will participate in the Nursing Residency Program classes, sessions and simulations. Additional learning opportunities will be arranged by the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Nursing Resources on a case by case basis.

Parallel/Post Orientation Goals:

  • As applicable vacancies become available within the inpatient nursing units, positions will be posted initially for internal applicants.
    • Units typically hiring Pipeline Graduates are med/surg/telemetry (3A, 3B, 3G, 4A, 4B, 4G). Specialty areas such as the ED, ICU, NICU, OR, and L&D will consider Residents/Graduate Nurses on a case by case basis.
    • All prepared Pipeline RNs are encouraged to apply.
  • If hired into a position before the conclusion of the Pipeline orientation, the orientation time would be completed within the unit of hire by an assigned RN Preceptor within that specific unit.
  • If at the end of their orientation they have not secured a unit-based position, they could be placed on long term FMLA vacancies, unit-based vacancies, etc. This will allow further monitoring and continued development of their skills while filling vacancies.

Application process:

  • BSN prepared nurses will apply to specific job posting “Nurse Graduate Program” for consideration in this program.
