Frederick Health's Top 10 Moments of 2019

Frederick Health's Top 10 Moments of 2019

As we usher in a new year—and a new decade!—we can’t help but reflect on all the exciting changes and accomplishments that 2019 brought to Frederick Health. In no particular order, here’s a look back at our favorite moments of the last year.

  1. The Frederick Health Transformation
2019 brought the greatest change to our health system when we rebranded and changed our name to Frederick Health. Previously, our family of healthcare services went by so many names that it was challenging to understand how they were all related. But we all work as one, caring for our community. That’s why we decided to move to a single, simplified name, even though our mission “to positively impact the well-being of every individual in our community” remained the same. With our rebrand also came a new, consolidated website at FrederickHealth.org, clear signage, updated brochures, bills, forms, and more.
  2. Frederick Health Expands with Frederick Health Village
In late 2019, we purchased the State Farm campus off Monocacy Boulevard with plans for home healthcare services and hospice, as well as administrative offices. The new location will be named Frederick Health Village. It will include a new Frederick Health Call Center to improve access to our services, an expansion of the cardiac catheter laboratory, and more. For more information, check out this article in The Frederick News-Post.
  3. Frederick Health Rewards Launches New & Improved Program
When we changed our name, we also revamped one of our programs, formerly known as Frederick Health Select, to Frederick Health Rewards. The program helps every Frederick County resident take an active role in their health and wellbeing. Our members are the first to know about upcoming events, members-only lunches, health and wellness news, and networking opportunities. Plus, they get rewards just for taking active steps to stay healthy. For example, right now, members get discounted services through Featured Vendors, including Anytime Fitness, Soldierfit, Dublin Roasters Coffee, LaVida Massage, and more. Membership is completely free! Want to join? Sign up today.
  4. Frederick Health Medical Group Welcomes ENT Providers
Comprehensive otolaryngology or ear, nose, and throat (ENT) care are available for people of all ages, thanks to Frederick Health Medical Group’s ENT providers. Now accepting new patients, all of our providers are certified by the American Academy of Otolaryngology and the American Board of Otolaryngology. They’re offering lasting relief from common ear, nose, and throat problems, including head and neck cancer, endocrine surgery, rhinology/sinus surgery, facial plastic surgery, and more. Learn all about our extraordinary providers here.
  5. Dr. Marina Joins Frederick Health Medical Group Oncology & Hematology
Frederick Health Medical Group Oncology & Hematology welcomed its newest medical oncologist, Natalia Marina, M.D., to the team. Dr. Marina joined Drs. Elhamy Eskander, Mark Goldstein, Patrick Mansky, and Brian O’Connor at the full-service practice specializing in medical oncology, breast cancer, lung cancer, and benign and malignant hematology. Dr. Marina is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in hematology and speaks English, Italian, and Russian. You can learn more about Dr. Marina and her expertise here.
  6. Urgent Care Delivers Alternative to ER Visits
Located just across the street from Frederick Health Hospital, Urgent Care offers fast, affordable treatment for common conditions like accidents and falls, sprains, cold and flu, pink eye, and more. This year, we promoted our Urgent Care services as an alternative option to an emergency room visit, providing the care you need when it counts, with no appointment or referral required. Professional care, available 7 days a week, allowed many people in our community to skip the ER in 2019 and get treated faster. Urgent Care can even help you check many important health-related tasks, like physicals and flu shots, off your to-do list. Keep Urgent Care in mind as a quick option for your family’s health services in 2020.
  7. Virtual Visits Offer Care from Frederick Health Providers Online
New this year, Frederick Health began offering fast, easy access to healthcare just a click away. With Virtual Visits, patients can connect with trusted Frederick Health providers online to be treated for common conditions like cold/flu, allergies, sinus infections, and more. After logging in from the comfort of your home and connecting with a Frederick Health provider, you’ll get a diagnosis and treatment plan. There’s no appointment needed and no waiting time. Learn more about this new service available to you and your family, or start a virtual visit consultation today!
  8. Four New Cancer Toolkits Now Available to Community
At Frederick Health, our goal is to help spread awareness and education about several cancers impacting our community. That’s why we launched four new online cancer toolkits each on a different type of cancer: colorectal cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer. These kits are for anyone who wants to learn more about these cancers, including local stats, risk factors, and screenings, and help us spread the word during national awareness months and all year long.
  9. Chest Pain Center Earns Its Highest Accreditation
Most heart damage occurs within the first two hours of a heart attack. That’s why if you or someone you’re with experiences new or unexplained chest pain, call 9-1-1 immediately. Once you arrive at the Frederick Health Emergency Department, the team in the Chest Pain Center knows how to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients who may be having a heart attack—even when they don’t display the usual symptoms. The Center is reviewed rigorously every three years, and this year, our team received the highest level of accreditation from the American College of Cardiology. It’s validation that the team goes above and beyond to provide the most advanced cardiac care possible to our patients. Read more about the accreditation on page 14 of our April edition of Well Aware.
  10. The Development Council Celebrates 30 Years
2019 marked the 30th anniversary of the Frederick Health Development Council, a dedicated group of volunteers at the heart of Frederick Health’s fundraising efforts. Since 1989, the Development Council has helped continue our tradition of philanthropy so we may meet the community’s healthcare needs. Together, they’ve raised more than $80 million for renovations, new construction, service line enhancements, and new and replacement medical technology. We can’t thank our more than 75 community and business leaders that comprise the Development Council for their years of servitude and ushering Frederick Health into the next decade.

Thank you for trusting us with your health in 2019. It has been a privilege to serve you and your family. May you have a safe, healthy, and happy new year!
