Job Shadowing

Thank you for your interest in pursuing a job shadow/healthcare observer experience at Frederick Health.

Job shadowing is open to individuals looking to fulfill a school admission requirement for the following. These experiences are limited and not for credit.

• Respiratory Therapist
• Radiology Technician
• Surgical Technician
• The medical staff office may process shadows that are pre-arranged with a Credentialed Provider/Physician

Note: Please submit an online application at least two weeks prior to the anticipated start date. The application must include the exact time frame for the experience and the department in which they are interested.

Application Process

Frederick Health’s primary goal is to ensure patient safety and privacy; because of this, we require the following application process:

1. Download the required job shadow/healthcare observer forms.

The document includes all of the following forms. Please review the information, print, and complete the required forms to ensure that you are prepared to apply for placement.

• Frederick Heath Job Shadow/ Healthcare Observer Tip Sheet
• HIPPA Training Observations/Vendors
• Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement: Non-Computer Access Version
• Mentor Agreement
• Parent Consent Form (Under 18 years of age)

Note: Required immunizations are found in the tip sheet.

2. Complete the online job shadowing application

Please fill out the online application found at the bottom of this page. All submissions will be processed electronically. If placement is found, a staff member will be in touch.

If you are interested in shadowing a Frederick Health Physician, CRNP or PA or you would like to shadow in the Operating Room, you are responsible for making this arrangement and completing the Mentor Agreement prior to submitting your application.

If you are seeking employment with Frederick Health, please complete our online job application for the position you are interested in (at the manager’s discretion a job shadow may be scheduled as part of the interview process).

Additional Information:

1. A job shadow is for one (1) eight (8) hour shift only (could be broken into two (2) four (4) hour shifts).
2. Paperwork for a job shadow must be into Frederick Health at least one (1) week prior to the date you want to shadow.
3. Please understand that, depending on numerous factors, including patient and student volumes, placement is not guaranteed. You will be notified regarding the status of your application within one (1) to two (2) weeks of submitting it.
4. Job shadow/healthcare observations are not permitted in the Pediatrics and Obstetrics units due to the sensitive nature of cases.
5. Observers do not participate in patient care in any manner.
6. Observers are not allowed to enter isolation rooms under any circumstances
7. Observer experiences are not allowed or will be suspended immediately if there are any types of hospital incidences (SARS, flu epidemic, IT system downtime, Disaster Plan in effect, etc..) or if the person has any type of illness/infectious condition (pink eye, coughs, cold symptoms, fever, etc.)
