About the Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program

The Program
New for the 2026-2027 residency year! The Frederick Health Community-Based PGY-1 residency will be based in the Frederick Health Pharmacy, the outpatient pharmacy for the Frederick Health system and led by Emily Yeager, PharmD, in cooperation with Nakia Eldridge, PharmD, MBA, Director of Pharmacy Services, and Hannah Rinker, PharmD, MPH, Manager of Retail Pharmacy Services.
The pharmacy provides services in multiple areas, including a large meds-to-beds program for the hospital, palliative medications for Frederick Health Hospice, mail order, specialty, and traditional community pharmacy services for employees. The residency is designed to provide exposure and experience in a wide variety of outpatient pharmacy practice settings, particularly those focused on transitions of care.
At the completion of the program, residents will be prepared for careers in advanced community settings, transitions of care, academia, or to pursue specialized PGY-2 training or a fellowship.
Education
Every Frederick Health Pharmacy Resident will deliver formal presentations and actively contribute to case study presentations and clinical teaching. Residents will also teach various allied health professionals and precept pharmacy students on clinical rotations. The Pharmacy has academic affiliations with many schools of pharmacy including, University of Maryland, Shenandoah University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy, among others. Residents may also work toward a teaching certificate through the University of Maryland.
Research
Research skills are an essential component of Frederick Health's pharmacy residency programs. Each resident will complete a research project suitable for publication and presentation in a selected area of community pharmacy practice. Residents will also be expected to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Eastern States Regional Pharmacy Residency Conference.

Salary and Benefits
Pharmacy residents receive a salary from Frederick Health Hospital as well as all benefits collected by full-time employees. These include medical, dental, life insurance, and more.
Paid Time Off
Residents are provided a total of 10 days of paid time off (PTO). PTO can be used for interviews, vacation, or sick time.
Pharmacy Residency Program Application Information
A completed application file is necessary before scheduling for an onsite interview can occur. The deadline to apply for the residency is January 5th., 2026 Applicants should comply with all requirements through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application System (PhORCAS). Nothing should be sent directly to Frederick Health.
Requirements for Successful Completion of the Residency
- 80% of goals achieved
- Completion of residency project and written manuscript
- Pharmacist license by October 1 in the State of Maryland
- Staffing every fourth weekend
