PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program

Frederick Health currently offers two PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency positions per academic year. The Department of Pharmacy consists of a team of Clinical Pharmacists and Clinical Pharmacy Specialists providing service in multiple areas of practice. The Department currently provides clinical services to the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Pediatrics & Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Behavioral Health Unit, Pharmacogenomics, Geriatrics, and Oncology.

Our Mission
The Frederick Health Pharmacy Residency Program has been designed to develop pharmacy practitioners who are self-directed and prepared to pursue specialized residency training or assume an advanced practice role in a hospital environment. The resident will acquire the tools necessary to enhance pharmaceutical care, improve their leadership, and sharpen administrative skills. Residency graduates will demonstrate time management and independent thinking skills that will make them leaders within their practice setting and the profession of pharmacy.
Education
Every Frederick Health Pharmacy Resident will deliver formal presentations and actively contribute to case study presentations and clinical teaching. Residents will also teach various allied health professionals and precept pharmacy students on clinical rotations. The Pharmacy has academic affiliations with many schools of pharmacy including, the University of Maryland, Shenandoah University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and Notre Dame of Maryland University, among others. Residents may also work toward a teaching certificate through the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, if they so choose.
Research
Research skills are an essential component of Frederick Health Hospital's pharmacy residency program. Each resident will complete a research project suitable for publication and presentation in a selected area of pharmacy practice. Residents are expected to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy Residents and Preceptors.

Salary and Benefits
Pharmacy residents receive a salary from Frederick Health Hospital as well as all benefits collected by full-time employees. These include medical, dental, and life insurance, and more.
Paid Time Off
Residents are provided a total of 10 days of paid time off (PTO). PTO can be used for interviews, vacation, or sick time.
Pharmacy Residency Program Application Information
A completed application file is necessary before scheduling for an onsite interview can occur. The deadline to apply for the residency is January 5th. Applicants should comply with all requirements through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application System (PhORCAS). Nothing should be sent directly to Frederick Health.
Requirements for Successful Completion of the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency
In order to successfully complete the PGY-1 Frederick Health Pharmacy Residency Program, residents must meet requirements for pharmacy practice, deliverables, and achievement of objectives.
