Frederick Health identified a ransomware event. We took immediate steps to help contain the incident, and we proactively took our systems offline.
We are working closely with third-party cybersecurity experts to bring our systems back online as quickly and safely as possible and in a way that prioritizes patient care.
Our facilities remain open, and we continue to provide care for our patients using established back-up processes and other downtime procedures. Nevertheless, there are certain delays in our services at this time.
Statement from Tom Kleinhanzl, President and CEO of Frederick Health
February 6, 2025
Frederick Health identified suspicious activity affecting our IT systems on January 27, 2025, and confirmed that it was the result of ransomware.
We took immediate steps to help contain the threat and are working diligently with third-party experts to restore our systems. Law enforcement has been notified.
I am proud of our team at Frederick Health. They immediately pivoted to downtime procedures and continue to provide optimum care to patients in the community. All of our facilities are open and operational with the exception of the Frederick Health Village Lab. Our Emergency Department is open to walk-ins and all EMS transports.
We continue to work with third-party experts who are evaluating whether personal data has been affected. If we find that personal data is involved, we will notify individuals in accordance with applicable law.
I appreciate the Frederick community and the hospitals in the surrounding area for their support and cooperation as we worked through this event.
We are making significant progress in restoring systems and processes and expect to recover from this experience stronger and more resilient than ever. I am incredibly grateful for the dedication of our employees, medical staff, and volunteers. They have demonstrated their steadfast commitment to our mission to positively impact the well-being of every individual in the community.
