Trust Our Team of Care Providers

Frederick Health Hospital’s Adult Emergency Department provides care for more than 65,000 patients from all over Frederick County and surrounding areas on a yearly basis. The Emergency Department is designed to enhance all aspects of patient and family centered care. We take a multidisciplinary approach to care delivery including board-certified physicians and nurses, Advanced Practice Providers, also known as physician assistants (PA), emergency care technicians, and a complement of ancillary staff, healthcare experts, and other healthcare team members.

At the Adult Emergency Department (ED) of Frederick Health Hospital, our mission is to provide a comprehensive and integrated healthcare delivery system to treat all patients in a timely fashion, with the most accurate diagnosis utilizing the most effective specialty care possible. Our experienced healthcare team is guided by procedures and processes rooted in evidence-based care and industry best practices.

Information for Visitors

Family and friends are important because they provide support to you and information that assists in your diagnosis and treatment. Due to the nature of emergency care, we must limit the number of visitors in the treatment area to two per patient. We recommend that a spokesman is appointed to help to communicate with all family members and friends as we relay information to the patient.

When you arrive at our ED, you will be greeted and escorted to an intake area to begin your assessment and treatment by a member of the team including a physician, physician assistant, nurse, and / or emergency care technician. In some cases, tests and treatment may begin at this time. It is important to note that patients are moved through the system based on an assigned triage level known as an ESI Emergency Severity Index level 1-5, with 1 being most severe emergency and 5 being less of an emergency.
