Surgical Oncology
Surgery Plays a Vital Role in Cancer Treatment.
Your cancer surgeon plays a central role in your treatment. A surgical oncologist is a surgeon who has an interest and special skill in managing tumors of all types. Studies have shown that the expertise of the person performing your surgery has an effect on your overall outcome (prognosis).
Surgical oncologists with expertise in the treatment of most tumors are available at our cancer center. The role of a surgical oncologist is to assist in diagnosis (biopsy), staging, and treatment of all solid tumors. Many surgeons have adopted a minimally invasive (laparoscopic) approach to surgery, allowing for less postoperative pain and a speedier return to normal activity.
